Learning Objectives 

By the end of today’s session, delegates will be able to: 

  • Apply current guidance to menopause management, including appropriate selection and monitoring of HRT and testosterone. 
  • Tailor HRT in complex patients, considering cardiovascular risk, migraine, breast cancer history and drug interactions. 
  • Optimise migraine management in primary care, including recognising medication overuse headache and treatment options. 
  • Conduct structured, patient-centred reviews, integrating menopause and migraine care into holistic consultations. 
  • Use effective consultation skills, including shared decision-making, safety-netting and appropriate signposting. 

Menopause & HRT: Effective Patient Management – CPD Accredited 

By the end of this session, participants will be able to: 

  • Apply NICE NG23 (2024) and BMS 2026 guidelines to diagnose peri/menopause clinically in primary care, including the role of testosterone 
  • Select the appropriate HRT type, route, and formulation based on individual patient risk profiles, including VTE, cardiovascular disease, and metabolic factors 
  • Describe evidence-based holistic and non-pharmacological approaches for women who cannot or choose not to take HRT 
  • Communicate the risks and benefits of long-term HRT using contemporary comparative lifestyle risk data 
  • Manage menopause in women with CVD risk factors including T2DM, hypertension, and heart failure 
  • Navigate confident consultations on symptom management and unscheduled bleeding 

HRT Prescribing in Complex Patients

  • Considerations to make in patients with cardiovascular risk, obesity & metabolic syndrome  
  • How to manage patients with migraines and aura considerations  
  • Confident conversations and shared decision making in patients with breast cancer history  
  • Drug interactions to consider with HRT (antiepileptics, tamoxifen, anticoagulants)  
  • Ensuring appropriate shared decision-making documentation  

Migraine Management and Reviews in Primary Care

  • Incorporating migraine reviews into your holistic reviews  
  • Overview of up to date and novel treatment options in migraine management  
  • Guidance on Medication Overuse Headaches 
  • How to manage patients on HRT with migraines and headaches 

Menopause & HRT: Consultation Skills – CPD Accredited 

By the end of this session, participants will be able to: 

  • Conduct effective consultations, medication reviews and annual reviews with menopause patients 
  • Use effective questioning techniques to identify risk, impact and patient priorities 
  • Manage common difficult conversations surrounding menopause & HRT, including those with worsening symptoms and disease progression  
  • Understand and implement good safety netting, counselling and follow up principles alongside clear documentation in all HRT and menopause consultations
